I centered mine by cutting the axle housing 3 inches shorter on one side thn the other and swapping them out side to side. Was pretty straight forward. Spent about 400.00 total for the rear end and new brake components.

Jan 03, 2015 · 2. Id rather keep it a 3/4 ton because we use it for some farm work. I just want to make it go faster so we can drive a decent speed on the road. Right now top speed is at about 35 mph. i heard that a dana 60 series axle from a 3/4 ton dodge truck ( don't know the year) will bolt into the 1950 chevy.

Width between wheel mounting surfaces 59.75". Pinion offset to right of center 2-3/16". Pinion length, tube center to U-joint center 11-5/8". Pinion height, U-joint center below tube center 1-7/8".

A 6 lug 1/2 ton axle from a 67-87 will fit nicely if there's a need to retain the original wheel bolt pattern.67-72 axle is just about the same width.I used a 73-87 type 1/2 ton 4x4 axle in my 50 Chevy PU.It's two inches wider but fits nicely.The earlier axles are truck 12 bolts,most 73 and up are 10 bolt.
