Your clutches can be restacked with additional plates. I would get the trans rebuilt to a heavy duty configuration before bolting it to a Cummins.

Learn MoreSep 22, 2003 · According to my dealer I can get the 5.4 with 4.30s. Ford.com let me build a F350 4x4 5.4 with 4.30s also. Who knows. Truck won't be towing more than 7k but, will be plowing. I was figuring on 4.10s with whatever engine I decide on but, was curious how the 4.30s felt. Since it's gonna be just a stripper work truck I'm leaning towards the 5.4.

If you want the lightning converter you will need the lightning flex plate which is a 6 bolt.

Highway I had 13.5 with 5.4 and 12.5 with V10). I have read about both engines going the distance. I'm happy to not have the 5.4 and also couldnt justify, or afford, a diesel of similar model year so I took the V10.
